Cross Town Youth Chorus
CROSS TOWN YOUTH CHORUS has participated annually in the Black History Month concerts hosted by Harmonia Choir of Ottawa, and is thrilled to be taking part in this next generation of that concert, the MosaiK Choral Festival. CTYC has also performed with several other local groups and festivals, including Amabile Singers of Nepean, Atlantic Voices, Cumberland Community Singers, and Ottawa Brahms Choir. They were very excited to participate in the Kaleid Festival here in Ottawa 2 years ago, with Finnish singing sensation, Rajaton, and again June 2012, this time taking place in Kingston. The choir annually participates in the Kiwanis Music Festival, and, after sucesses here in Ottawa, was thrilled in 2012 to win the bronze medal in the Provincial Music Festival. For the past two years CTYC has been thrilled to perform in the Ottawa Jazz Festival's presentation of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" with Jerry Granelli, one of the original members of the Vince Guaraldi Trio who wrote and performed the original soundtrack.
The choir has weekly rehearsals in two locations; Orleans and Alta Vista, and the two groups come together for performances.
CTYC is directed by Kurt Ala-Kantti, who is also the director of Tone Cluster and Harmonia Choir of Ottawa. Their multi-talented accompanist is Tom Sear. The Choir counts its blessings to have Tom. As well an accomplished pianist, Tom is a very talented percussionist, and the choir makes use of his talents on a regular basis. Born and raised in the Nation's Capital, he recently graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Masters degree in piano performance. Currently Tom is working as a private piano teacher, and an accompanist for students at the University of Ottawa. He is also accompanist for the Musica Viva Singers, the Choir of St. Thomas the Apostle, and the Cumberland Community Singers.
