Ottawa Regional Youth Choir

The Ottawa Regional Youth Choir was founded in 1982 by Barbara Clark, C.M. and directed by her with élan and great success through most of its first 25 years. At the beginning this season the ORYC was delighted to welcome Jamie Loback as the new Director.

This award winning choir gives young people in the region an opportunity to strive for choral excellence. The ensemble, chosen by audition, is open to young people between the ages of 15 and 23. The choir performs its own concerts, and is also heard in performance with a wide range of other musical entities, including the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Ottawa Choral Society, The Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, and The Cantata Singers of Ottawa. The choir was honoured to win the City of Lincoln Award at the National Music Festivals in 2000.

The choir performs a broad range of repertoire from the 16th to the 21st centuries. It is committed to the promotion of Canadian composers and their music. In conjunction with this commitment, the group has been involved in a number of premières and workshop presentations of new music. It has also commissioned a number of new works it has been pleased to add to the general choral repertoire.
